Last Upholstering Update

Here it is! I am a bit more critical, so could list for you the ways in which it is not perfect, however, I am relieved that it is done. : )

Ice Scapes

As we headed a bit south on Saturday, we were awed by the sight of the silvery landscape as the sun peaked out from the heavy clouds. EVERYTHING was covered with ice. (Made me think of Narnia!:) )

Wedding Joys

Last Friday, Sarah got her invitations from her sister-in-law, so I hopped on addressing the envelopes. That night, I headed to Sarah's with the envelopes and we sat til 11:30 P.M. putting her invitations together! It was really fun, and a nice time to be together.

































Wednesday, Sarah, her mom, and I headed to Hamilton for the Grant and Schmidt women shower for Sarah. Sarah got some needed gifts, and the time was so special for her. It was neat for me to meet a lot of women who love the Lord, and to hear them shared how they had prayed for a woman for Derek; God answering with Sarah. After language study in Salatiga (same campus Mountainview International Christian School!!!) Sarah & Derek will head to the Dawo tribe where Derek was a part of opening the work. If the Lord continues to lead us to Wamena, West Papua, we will some day teach Derek & Sarah's children if God desires to bless them in that way. It is exciting to help a former student, a good friend, and current co-worker. : )

Some More Winter

Tuesday everything outside was covered with freezing rain. Wednesday morning we awoke to a thick, sticking, coat of snow on everything. Sure is beautiful!

Stampin' Block

For Christmas my wonderful husband made me blocks for a sheet of coffee themed rubber stamps I bought at the Needlework & Sewing Festival last spring in Toronto. It is definitely the cheeper way to go, and of course, I have a wonderfully talented husband who can make me the blocks to stick them on to! : ) Don't they look great!!

Upholstering Continues

A fellow 2nd Year Staffer, Muriel, has been giving me a hand with putting the love seat back together. I have really appreciated her help! Here we are working on it this week. I am not finished, so will publish the finished picture when it is done..... next week maybe. :)

Weekend with Some Whatleys

This past weekend we had a VERY nice, needed relaxing weekend at Tim & Kathy's. Neither Kathy nor I felt like painting, so we put our creative juices to work and pumped out 29 'Thank You' cards for Kathy. It was so much fun working together. The guys also had a very nice relaxing time talking, playing Settlers of Catan with the boys, and talking some more.

Upholstering Giant

I, Karen, have once again tackeled the love seat for here in the 2nd Year office. I want it done for two reasons; 1) to make our office look nicer with a updated looking loveseat, and 2) to be able to teach an upholstering class for PTC. It is a good skill to know, I think, as missionaries.

Well, the Giant is making my adventurious spirit weaken. It is a bit daunting to go next door and begin scratching my head as to what to do next. Today's progress was to cut patterns from the cloth I took off of the loveseat, and to cut big pieces for the rest of the love seat that I will not bother trying to re-duplicate. It is too complicated for my amature knowledge and experience. This afternoon I will head to the local upholstering place to ask some advice and to pick up some cardboard strips, nail/metal strips, and some padding that I kind of discabobilated in taking it off of the love seat. Tomorrow I hope to tackle the stapling and re-assembling.

Karen to the Andrew's Salon

Back in October, I, Karen dyed my hair black for a missions conference in Goderich to fit into what we would be sharing with the children. I enjoyed the color, but with my natural color coming in, I started stripping the color this past Friday - Jan. 6th. I came up with orange (a very nice orange I must say...) and very blond roots. I had a brown hair colour to finish the job, since I was not sure what to do about the duel colour, I wanted some advice. So, in heading to Tim & Kathy's to paint, we swung by our good friend's, the Andrew's for Wayne's advice. Well, Wayne went ahead and coloured my hair for me! We had a wonderful visit with them, and I left a browner, brown head with orange highlights. (* Wayne was once a beautician, but now a strawberry farmer among other things.) : )

The Paint Crew

Tim & Kathy were gone for a few days, so Shane and I took our last weekend of break to finish up their main kitchen cupboards before they returned! We had so much fun working together, listening to music, and seeing the doors hung before we headed out. We aren't done yet, however, for which we are glad. It has been GREAT to spend time with Tim, Kathy, and the kids in giving them a hand in remodeling their place while they are on furlough.

Elizabeth's Tea Room

Mom Whatley, Rachel & I enjoyed a nice afternoon tea and scones, mom's last afternoon here. It was a real nice time of talking and laughing, and just enjoying being together.
