Some Flowers on Java

Where Are You????

Brother John, we have hit the road running! I feel like I am so out of touch already and I have a feeling that once we hit language study starting Wednesday it will be much the same.

We arrive safely to Java and were picked up by Tim & Alan. It has been so fun for Shane to have two of his brothers so close. They have been together almost every day. :) Of course, with Tim helping with orientation, we have seen him every day for the last week from 8-10. :)

Our afternoon have been filled with shopping still. MAN, it takes a lot to set up house again! I am about shopped out - if you can imagine that! :) It has been really fun though, in the sense that I usually don't go shopping very often, so that has been fun to just buy all the things that we need. :)

Here's Shane shopping for a rice cooker! How in the world do you make a decision when there is a WHOLE isle of rice cooker types and brands???!!! :)

So, this last week has been filled with orientation from 8-10, shopping til 12, afternoons with more shopping, or getting our language evaluated, and the evenings are filled with being at someone's home each evening. That has been really nice.

Sleep has been more difficult for me as our house is noisy with the load, busy road out front, roosters, sleeping with just a sheet and not feeling settled yet. The other afternoon I did have a few hours to get a bit of a sleep, and Rachel gave me a blanket to use for now. :) Blankets give me that comfy, cozy, secured feeling when I sleep. :) I've done better the last two nights. :)

Judah & Miriam playing with Uncle Shane...

Last night, a bunch of us got together for a family +extra friends for a Thanksgiving meal. It was sooo yummy! After things were cleaned up we had a super time hugging and kissing the kids good-night, and then talking with Tim & Kathy.

I think the bros will do something this moring or afternoon, and then Shane has his area men's meeting tonight at 7. (Alan checked us in with our area leader man two days ago.)

This coming week we have Monday & Tuesday 'off' as we wait a new gal coming on Sunday. Wednesday starts the whole shebang!

Life at the Guest House

First things first on the mornings agenda! (Shane & Sarah sharing the desk for e-mailing.)

Bug harrassment of the mango tree's unwanted inhabitant.... some kind of weird worm that was eating up the tree from the inside out.

Homemade coconut milk - Ibu Desi

Ok, so, I remember Indonesia not having much in the way of shower gels. Soap here can stay quite soggy, so the shower gel is very nice in the mandi (or shower) room. While in JKT, I picked up a small travel bottle of shower gel. I was quite overwhelmed with the HUGE shelf and the countless kinds to buy. This is the feeling I'm supposed to get when I get back to North America and walk into a Super Wal-Mart! Anyway... I decided on this 'DeepClean' one. I have noticed it seemed a bit harsh on my face so this morning thought I'd take a look at the ingredients. I think you will be able to read them for yourself, especially the 5th from last ingredient! :) Pretty funny, eh?

Meandering on the Meadows

Shane used to come here with the dorm as a special outing. It is a very unique place! The hills are rolling with stubby grass and cactus. Cows roam freely and Shane remembers them having motorcross races around on the hills.

Hiking... (that's the car in the distance)

On the top.....

The bay....

A photographer in the rough.... :) Isn't he cute?

Cactus & Prickly Pears....

...and of course some flowers. :)

After our trip to the meadows, we headed for the bay to a restaurant for supper.

As we headed out, this little guy came out of now-where. :)

Out And About

A band in the 'mall' called CREW..

This poster was outside of a Bata shoe store. Cracked me up! I left the cropped picture of the bottom of the poster in a larger size so that you could click on it and hopefully read the words better.

We swung by a grocery store for Phil to buy some supplies. Shane and I enjoyed looking at all of the yummy food! We picked up a mango and some salak (snake fruit) to enjoy as well as some local snacks from this assortment. :) The manager of the department was quick to want to be in the picture. :)
